My name is Sandy Blanc and I’m an artist whose work has been seen in many exhibits mostly in Illinois and in shows at ARC Gallery, when a member of the coop from 1993-1999. I’m pleased to be in two collections in Chicago, at the Oppenheimer Corp. and the legal offices of R. Fenton, and to have received several awards of merit over the years. I’m a graduate of Lawrence U. in Appleton, WI. I studied for nine years with Chicago watercolorist George Buehr and later at the Putney School of Art, Cass Polytechnic of the U of London, in London before earning my MA and MFA at NIU, DeKalb, IL. At NIU, I worked in the Center for Burma Studies for Dr Richard Cooler. In 1997 I began work for the Suburban Fine Arts Center (now The Art Center, Highland Park) where I remained for 10 years as the exhibition coordinator. My primary job was hanging the monthly shows in it’s gallery spaces. Other responsibilities included the Recycled Art Show, the Highland Park Festival of Fine Craft and the gift shop. My time there also included some teaching: collage and hanging art. I recently retired and continue to enjoy the experience and excitement of making art in my own studio, visiting with art friends here and around the country and exhibiting with art friends of the Group 22. I’ll be teaching collage at the Evanston Art Center in February of 2009.
As for having a “life” as they say. I’ve been happily married for 43 years, with 4 wonderful kids and 8 grandkids…and they are all grand! The most fun teaching has been doing art projects with them. My oldest, Michael, was born before I was married to Lou, and adopted and raised by a wonderful family, the Gilleys. I was very blessed to be able to reconnect with his life in 2003.
My other interests and activities include music, (my husband and I study vocal music with Roberta Singer, formerly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus and a dear friend in art making as well as music making), church choir, being a cantor, sewing, reading, cooking and the Opera. I love sudokus, cryptoquotes, acrostics and almost anything from The Teaching Company. I dislike shopping and writing, which is why you shouldn’t expect daily additions to this blog…but this IS fun, thanks.
Hello Sandy,
A voice from the past. I was just perusing Evanston’s call to art & came accross your name. If you remember, I was in Betty Edwards group with you at Countryside.
Let me know if you want to catch up.
Yvonne
Hello–
I am considering taking your class and found this site–I hope it’s okay that I write here (didn’t find an email). I have many of the items for the class, but not exactly what was stipulated, so I was wondering if that was okay (i.e. I have liquid acrylics, but they’re Golden and not Blick’s; I have a great all-media wirebound notebook, but it’s 9 x 12 not 11 x 14; the gel medium I have is glossy, and while I actually have cray pas, I have a mix of sennelier and holbein that are in the colors I tend to like, and I do have Elmer’s but am hoping to get through the ton of clear glue that I happened to buy too much of) Never really have done collage before, so I don’t know if any of this matters or not. Hoping to use the supplies I have on hand, but don’t know if that would be okay. If you could let me know, I’d appreciate it.
Thanks for all–
